The Levelland Lobos hosted the San Angelo Lake View Chiefs this past Friday for UIL District Baseball play where the Lobos won 6-5 in an extra inning.
The Lobos were the first team on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Brayden Moore walked and R.J. Mireles hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run making the score 2-0 early.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Levelland was able to get another run after Tyler Pemberton doubled on a line drive to right field to send in Mireles to extend their lead to 3-0.
Lake View tied the game in the top of the fifth inning after they hit a single on a ground ball to second base, hit a fly out and one grounded out, each scoring one run.
The Chiefs took the lead in the top of the sixth after one batter hit a triple and the other hit a single to drive in two runners giving Lake View the 5-3 lead.
Levelland was able to come through in the bottom of the seventh inning after Rusty Johnson hit a double and Mireles hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run to tie the game at 5-5.
The game was put on ice in the bottom of the eighth inning after Jake Potter hit a sacrifice fly to left field to send in Anson McMahan to take the big district win and split the series with the Chiefs.
Boston Winfield earned the win for the Lobos as he gave up six hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking none.
Moore started on the mound for the Lobos as he gave up five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four and walking four in the game.
Levelland accumulated 10 hits throughout the game. Pemberton and McMahan were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Lobos. Mireles drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Lobos with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1for-2 on the day. Levelland was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error, Johnson had the most chances in the field with six.
The Lobos progress to 1113-1 on the season while they go up to 2-4 in district play sitting in four place tied with Sweetwater.
The Lobos played against the Big Spring Steers this past Tuesday at home as they get ready to take on the Snyder Tigers this Friday as the visiting team at 7 p.m.
