The Levelland Lobos squared off against the Brock Eagles in the Bi-District Round of the 4A Division 2 baseball playoffs this past Thursday and Friday, resulting in the Lobos being swept in the best-of-three series.
Game one took place at Abilene Christian University, and Brock won the matchup 13-0 across five innings. Brock added nine runs in the first inning; one run in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning.
In the team statistics, Brock bested Levelland 13-2 in hits and 3-1 in walks, and neither team committed an error.
The Lobos standouts at the plate in game one included Jeron Salinas going 1/2, Abram Arteaga going 1/2 and Braylon Delcampo with a walk.
On the mound in game one, Jake Potter got the start, pitching 0.2 innings and surrendering nine earned runs on six hits and two walks. He’d be relieved by Kane Rice, who pitched the final 3.1 frames, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits and one walk.
Game two took place in Eula, resulting in Brock earning a 12-1 win across five innings. Brock scored two runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, three runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning to secure the game and series win.
In the team statistics, Brock bested Levelland 10-2 in hits, 6-3 in walks and 1-5 in errors committed.
Levelland’s standouts at the plate in game two included Ian Rivera going 1/2 with a run-batted-in, Jake Potter going 1/3, Javier Ruiz with a walk and a stolen base, and RJ Mireles and Arteaga both with a walk drawn.
Boston Winfield started on the mound for the Lobos in game two, pitching 2.2 innings and surrendering four earned runs on seven hits and five walks while strik - ing out five batters. He'd be followed by Rivera, who pitched 1.1 innings, surrendering zero earned runs on a hit and a walk while striking out a batter. Arteaga would pitch the final frame, sur rendering one earned run on two hits.
The playoff series may not have ended the way the Lobos wanted, but they were certainly still grateful and proud for the moment.
“This playoff series was something special,” Levelland Head Baseball Coach Chris Portwood said. “Those games are hard to get to, it takes lots of work every day through the year to get there. It’s very unique time spent with the kiddos and for our community. Our boys deserved every bit.”
The Lobos final record for the 2026 baseball season is 14-18, following 11 consecutive trips to the playoffs.
Levelland graduates four difference makers, but retains a good young core, which now have valuable experience to take into next season.
