The Levelland Lobos traveled on the road for a nondistrict baseball matchup against Trinity Christian Lions this past Tuesday night, resulting in the Lobos falling to them 6-2.
Trinity Christian scored two runs in the first inning, two runs in the third inning and a run in the fourth inning. The teams would tie 1-1 in the fifth inning, and Levelland would add a run in the seventh inning.
In the team statistics, the Lions bested the Lobos 9-6 in hits, 4-3 in walks and 0-2 in errors committed.
Standouts at the plate for Levelland included third baseman Abram Arteaga going 2/3 with a run scored, a double and a stolen base, left fielder Kai Martinez going 2/3, shortstop Jake Potter going 1/3, first baseman Kane Rice going ½, second baseman Javier Ruiz with a walk and a stolen base, Ian Rivera with a run scored and a walk, and catcher Braylon Delcampo with a walk.
On the mound for the Lobos, Rivera pitched three frames, surrendering three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters. He was followed by Potter, who pitched two innings, surrendering one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out a batter, and Boston Winfield who pitched a scoreless inning and recorded a strikeout.
“It wasn’t a district game, so I used some unusual rotations but saw some good,” Levelland Head Baseball Coach Chris Portwood said. “There is some real young talent and last night added to our depth. I’m proud of these kids for how they hung in there and stayed together. Thank you to the community for the support and the future is bright for this young Lobo team. They will do whatever it takes.”
Following the non-district loss, the Lobos drop to 1215 overall and their district record remains at 4-5.
