The Levelland Lobos traveled to Canyon for their two game series this past Thursday where they went 1-1 on the road.
Canyon 7, Levelland 0
For the first game of the day the Lobos took on the Canyon Eagles, Levelland would fall 7-0.
In the first inning of the game Levelland wasn’t able to get anything going for their first drive as Noah Tienda was able to get to second base and Rusty Johnson on first, but the drive stalled out.
On the defensive side of the ball game Canyon was able to get a run in after they walked a runner and let another get a triple sending the first runner home to make the score 1-0 at the end of the first inning.
There wasn’t be much action until the bottom of the third when one of the Canyon Eagles players hit a double on a line drive to left field and then stole third base, after that another batter for Canyon hit a single on a ground ball to send the third base runner home after he stole home plate.
That wasn’t be it for Canyon after they would be able to get a runner on second base, and hit a double off of a pop fly to send the runner home and keep another player on second base. That finally where the drive stalled out and Canyon took a 3-0 lead at the bottom of the third inning.
In the fifth inning is where they Eagles caught fire and had four runs go for them to take extend their lead and keep it as the Lobos would eventually fall 7-0.
Jake Potter threw for four and two third of an inning, he allowed seven runs with five of them from eight hits, he walked two, struck out two and hit one batter.
Danny Ochoa threw for one and a third in relief where he didn’t allow a run or a hit, he struck out two and walked another.
The Lobos struggled offensively as they would not be able to get a hit or run throughout the game.
Levelland commited two errors and leave four runners left on base.
Levelland 9, Canyon Randall 8
The Lobos bounced back in their second game of the game with a win over the Randall Raiders where they won 9-8, after trailing 8-1 in the fourth.
The Randall Raiders got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Dylan Ray tripled, scoring two runs, Brekon Melton singled, scoring one run and Gio Miranda doubled, scoring one run making the score 4-0.
Ty Hoelting extended the Raider score to 5-0 in the bottom of the second .
Levelland finally got on the board at the top of the fourth as Jake Potter singled a ground ball to center field to let Anson McMahan score and get Rusty Johnson to third and Rance Massey to second making the score 5-1 at the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth Randall was able to get another three points and extend their lead to 8-1.
Although it wasn’t a great start for the Lobos they would be able to make a comeback in the top of the fifth after scoring eight runs on three hits to take the 9-8 lead. One of the key plays were from Brayden Moore who had a single that drove in two.
Noah Tienda, Charlie Romo, Moore and Potter all got a hit each for Levelland.
Johnson and McMahan led the team with two free passes each and Romo stole two bases.
Levelland had Perryton come to Levelland this past Saturday and the Denver City Mustangs this Monday for each of the teams non-district matchup in UIL High School Baseball.
