Lobos tame Lubbock Christian Eagles in Overtime

The Levelland Lobos traveled to Lubbock to take on the Lubbock Christian Eagles in UIL non-district play where the Lobos topped the Eagles, 55-53, in overtime.

For the Lobos the game started off very slow for the team as they were outscored 16-1 taking an early deficit by 15 points, going into the second quarter of play.

For the second quarter, Levelland was off to the races as they were able to score 18 points while holding the Eagles to only six, making the score 22-19, going into the halftime break.

Leading the Lobos in scoring at the half was Eryk Jones with eight points, four of them from down low.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Lobos were fighting till the very end as they took their first lead of the game as they outscored Lubbock Christian 1510 in the third quarter making the score 34-32 going into the fourth quarter of play.

For the fourth quarter Lubbock Christian was able to narrowly win the quarter 14-12 tying the game up at the end to make the game go into overtime with the score sitting at 46-46.

In overtime the Levelland defense was air tight as they were getting key plays to help their offense surge in the final quarter of the game as they won the quarter 9-7, and win the game 5553 in a nail-bitter.

Leading the Lobos in scoring on the night was Eryk Jones with 18 points, six of his points coming from long range. Sean Landrum had another 14 points, Elijah Jordan had eight, Bryson Golightly had five, Ethan Salazar had four and both Graham Gibbs and Nehemiah Sanchez had three points a piece.

Levelland shot the ball from the field with a 47% clip while going 23% from long range. The team also went 66% from the free throw line, hitting six out of nine. The Lobos won in the rebounding category with 41 boards while the Eagles pulled down 37. Although the Lobos were able to pluck the ball 13 times in the game, they gave the ball up 18 in their matchup.

The Levelland Lobos progress to 10-7 on the season as they get ready to take on the Sundown Roughnecks January 3, at home at 7:30 p.m.
