Lobos upset Snyder Tigers, 13-4

The Levelland Lobos took on the Snyder Tigers this past Friday as the visiting team for UIL District Baseball Action where the Lobos stunned the first place team in district, 15-4.

The Lobos were the first team on the board in the top of the first inning after Noah Tienda scored on a passed ball giving Levelland the early 1-0 lead.

Snyder was able to tie the game at one apiece in the bottom of the first inning after their batter hit into a fielder’s choice to send in a runner and tie the game.

Levelland retook the lead in the top of the fifth after Jake Potter hit single on a fly ball to center field to send in Anson McMahan and make the score 21.

The Tigers tied the game for a second time as they scored on a reached error by the Lobos to make the score 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

The game was turned around in the top of the sixth inning after Levelland scored five runs on one hits to take the 7-2 lead. Tyler Pemberton scored on a passed ball, R.J. Mireles and Charlie Romo both scored on the same error and Potter scored on an error after the first one by the catcher to give the Lobos the huge momentum shift.

Snyder was able to get two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as they had a double play and their batter hit a triple, each scoring a run to make the score 7-4.

In the top of the seventh inning, Levelland was able to extend their lead after they scored eight runs on four hits. Tienda doubled, scoring three runs, Rusty Johnson doubled, scoring one run, Pemberton drew a walk, scoring one run, Mireles drew a walk, scoring one run and Romo singled, scoring two runs, making the final score 15-4.

Boston Winfield earned the win for the Lobos as he gave up eight hits and four runs (three earned) over five and two-third innings, striking out two and walking four.

Brayden Moore appeared in relief for the Lobos as he gave up no hits and no runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking one on the night.

The Lobos gathered 10 hits throughout the game. Tienda, Johnson and Romo each collected two hits for Levelland. Tienda led the team with three runs batted in as he went 2-for-4 on the day. Pemberton led the Lobos with four walks as the team as a whole had 11 throughout. Levelland ran wild as they had four stolen bases in the game. Levelland turned in one double play. Tienda led the team in RBI’s as well with three in the game as the team had seven throughout.

The Lobos progress to 1214-1 on the season and go up to 35 in district play. The Lobos faced off against the Sweetwater Mustangs this past Tuesday as the visiting team at 7 p.m. and will finish off district play against the Estacado Matadors this Friday at home at 7 p.m.
