The Whitharral Lady Panthers hosted the Morton Maidens this past Tuesday for their district game where they won 63-20.
The first quarter of the game started off slow for the Maidens as they weren’t able to stop the Lady Panthers from driving into the paint as Whitharral was able to get 21 points in the first quarter, 12 of them coming from inside the paint while Morton was only able to get four points to fall for them.
For the second quarter of play it was more of the same story as the Maidens would be outscored by the Lady Panthers 11-to-3.
The score at the end of the half was Whitharral leading Morton 32-7.
Leading the Maidens in scoring at the half was Aerie Rodriguez as she was able to get three points at the half.
For Whitharral the leading scorer at the half was Madison Chavez who had 12 points at the half, six of them coming from long range.
Going into the third quarter of play the Maidens would have their best scoring output of the game with 11 points in the third while the Lady Panthers would continue their mean streak by adding another 18 points in the quarter.
Going into the final quarter of play Whitharral held the lead 5018.
For the final quarter of play the Lady Panthers would add another 13 points before the game ended while holding Morton to only two points.
Leading the Maidens in scoring for the night was Rodriguez as she had 10 points throughout the night against Whitharral.
Malorie Villerial finished with five points, Jayden Keeling had another three for the team and Clarissa Holland had two in the teams loss.
For the Whitharral Lady Panthers Paige Smith led the team in scoring on the night as she had 27 points on the night with 12 of those points coming from the third quarter of play.
Chavez finished the game with 14, Avery McCain had eight, Tyler Parkinson had six, Rylee Kristinek had five, Elizabeth Reyna had two and Trinity Coronado finished the game with one point.
The Maidens fall to 12-13 on the season while going 4-5 in district play sitting in fourth place.
The teams next game of district play is against the Meadow Lady Broncos this Tuesday as the visiting team at 6 p.m.
The Whitharral Lady Panthers progress to 24-4 on the regualar season while going 8-1 in district play sitting in second place only behind undefeated Whiteface.
The Lady Panthers next game in district play is against the Anton Lady Bulldogs this Tuesday at home at 6 p.m.
