The Morton Maidens faced off against the Anton Lady Bulldogs this past Tuesday on the road where they won 37-27.
Throughout the game it was a very defensive game as neither team was able to get the edge on one another and both were evenly matched.
The first quarter of the game was low scoring with Morton able to get the narrow lead early in the game leading 10-7 going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same for both teams as the Maidens were only able to get seven more points to go while the Lady Bulldogs had another six fall for them before the halftime break.
The score at the half was Morton leading Anton 17-13 in a close game.
Leading the Maidens in scoring at the halftime was Clarissa Holland who had 11 points, eight of them coming from the first quarter.
For the Lady Bulldogs it would be Alixis Hoover that would lead the team in scoring at the half as she had accumulated eight points, six of them coming from long range.
Going into the third quarter of play the close battle continued as the Maidens would add on to their lead by anther point as they outscored Anton 8-to-7 in the third quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter of play Morton would lead the Lady Bulldogs with the score sitting at 25-20.
For the final quarter of play the Maidens would find their rythme as they had their best scoring output of the game as they were able to run away with 12 points in the fourth while holding Anton to only six.
The Morton Maidens were able to get the close win and take their fourth win of district play to progress to 4-3 in district while going 12-11 on the year.
The Anton Lady Bulldogs fall to 4-13 on the season while going 1-5 in district play while sitting in fifth place.
Leading the Maidens in scoring was Holland as she finished with 17 points on the night with 12 of her points coming from inside the paint as she made her presense known down low.
Khloe Bordayo finished with eight points, Malorie Villarial had four, Aerieana Rodriguez had three, Cheyenne Lopez and Alison Yanez both finished with two points a piece and Lex Garza finished the game with one point on the night.
For the Lady Bulldogs they had one player finish in double digits in the game for scoring as Hoover had a good night going for 12 points throughout the night getting nine of them coming from beyond the arch.
Sarah Carlisle finished with seven points, three Lady Bulldogs finished the game with two points in Miliana Castillo, Alyssa Mancias and Aspyn Cooper and Jessica Rodriguez finished the night with one point on the night.
The Morton Maidens next game of the season will be against the Whitharral Lady Panthers as the away team at 6 p.m.
For the Anton Lady Bulldogs their next game in district play will be against the Whiteface Lady Lopes this upcoming Friday at home at 6:30 p.m.
