Morton Indians end their season against New Home

The Morton Indians had a great run for their basketball season but was unable to get past #4 New Home Leopards in the Regional Semi-Finals Round of playoffs where they fell 79-55, at Levelland High School.

The first quarter was tough for the Indians as they were outscored 23-9, falling early as the Leopards were hitting almost every long-range ball early.

The second quarter was a little more of the same story as Morton was only able to get 11 points to fall for them while their defense gave up 21 points, making the score 44-20, heading into the halftime break.

The third quarter Morton was able to keep the scoring close as they were barely outscored by two points 18-16, making the score 62-36, heading into the fourth quarter of action.

For the final quarter of play, the Indians were able to outscore the Leopards for the first time in the game as they had 19 points fall for them while their defense held New Home to just 17 points, taking the loss and ending their playoff run.

Cade Lyon led the Indians in scoring with 16 points on the night. Tra Holland had another 15 points, E.J. Rivas had 13, Lane Lyon had eight and Britton Boggs finished with three points.

Morton shot the ball for 32% from the field while going 29% from the long-range ball and 83% from the charity stripe.

The Indians led the game in second chance points as they got nine points off of 16 offensive rebounds in the game. New Home was only able to get 12 offensive rebounds in the game.

Morton gave the ball up 13 times throughout the game while they were able to force 11 of their own from the Leopards.

The Indians were outdone in the blocking category as they had none in the contest while New Home only had one.

The Morton Indians end their season with a 18-15 record on the season under first year Head Basketball Coach Andrew Brockman while finishing as Bi-District and Area Champions.

The Indians will say farewell to Seniors Lane Lyon, Cade Lyon and A.J. Mendoza.
