Morton Indians take area championship

The Morton Indians took on the Roscoe Plowboys this past Thursday night at Lamesa High School for their area round matchup where the Indians won, 58-50.

The first quarter of the game had Morton winning the quarter as they were able to outscore Roscoe 15-13, taking a two-point lead early in the game.

The second quarter of the game had the Indians winning that quarter as well as it was very defensive quarter. The Indians were able to get 12 points to fall for them while they held the Plowboys to just 10 points, making the score 27-23, heading into the halftime break.

The third quarter was more of the same story for the Indians as their offense couldn’t be stopped, outscoring Roscoe 14-8, extending their lead to 41-31, heading into the final quarter of the game.

The final quarter of the game was the highest scoring quarter for both teams as the Indians got 17 points to fall for them while Roscoe had 19 points to go for them, but it was too late as Morton was able to take the win to move on in the playoffs.

Leading the Morton Indians in scoring was E.J. Rivas with 20 points. Jaeden Alvarado had 11 points, Tra Holland had 10 points, Cade Lyon and Britton Boggs both had six points a piece, Lane Lyon and A.J. Mendoza both had two points a piece and Brayden Villarreal finished with one point in the team’s contest.

Morton was able to shoot the ball well as they went for 43% from the field while going 36% from three points range and 43% for free-throws in their contest.

The Indians were able to get more rebounds in the game as they had 41 in the game while Roscoe only had 29. Morton won the turnover battle as they forced 18 throughout the game while giving the ball up 17 times.

The Morton Indians progress to 18-14 on the season as they played against the New Home Leopards this past Monday night at Levelland High School for the team’s Regional Semi-Final Round of the playoffs.
