The Morton Indians faced off against the Muleshoe Mules where the team won in a nail bitter 48-47, on the road.
The game started off with Morton going on a run and taking the lead early jumping out to a 1612 lead in the first.
The second quarter of the game, it was even closer as neither team was able to get the edge on one another as both teams were at a stalemate scoring 13 points a piece.
For the Indians the leading scorer at the half was Alex Lopez as he had 10 points.
The team was able to do their part as they were able to hold off the Mules and outscore Muleshoe once more and extend their lead by two more points going into the fourth quarter with a 42-36 lead.
In the fourth is where it would be a battle for the Indians as they were held to only six points in the fourth while giving up 11.
Although they fell quite a bit in the fourth, they were able to take the teams last non-district win of the season and progress to 9-6 on the year.
The leading scorer on the night for the Indians would be Lopez as he finished with 14.
Zeph Silvas was able to get eight to go, Anibal Casteneda, Cade Lyon and Brayden Villarreal both had four a piece. Jorge and E.J. Rivas both had three a piece and A.J. Mendoza, Lane Lyon and Jaeden Alvarado all had two on the night.
The Indians were able to outrebound the Mules 32-to-28 on the night while winning the turnover battle as well, getting 15 steals compared to Muleshoe’s 14 on the night.
The team shot the ball well going 50 percent from the free throw line and going 36 percent from the field.
The Morton Indians started district play this Tuesday at home against the Whitharral Panthers.
