The Class 1A Whitharral Panthers came away with a 97-89 road win in overtime against the Class 2A New Deal Lions last Tuesday.
Whitharral trailed the Lions 19-17 at the end of the first quarter and 40-34 at halftime. The third quarter saw the Panthers come back to tie the score at 52 at the buzzer.
The two teams matched point for point in the fourth quarter for a 70-all tie at the end of regulation.
Free throws were a deciding factor in the overtime. New Deal outscored Whitharral 16-14 in field goals, but the Panthers went 13-for-15 in free throws against 3for-4 from the Lions.
The Panthers also out rebounded New Deal 60-39, had 15 steals against nine for the Lions.
Whitharral shot 48 percent from the field against 38 for New Deal.
Nate Sansom led all scorers with 44 points. Nomar Gomez had 20. Jack Griffin had 15. Brent Robinson had 10. Landon Lee had four. Brolin Kennedy and Rayden Potter had two each.
The Panthers are in Cotton Center on Friday at 7:45 p.m.
