The Ropes Eagles High School Boys’ Basketball team finished third in the Borden County Invitational Tournament, held December 7-9, with a 4-1 record.
Ropes 63, Midland Legacy JV 50
The Eagles opened the tournament on Thursday with a 63-50 win over the UIL Class 6A Midland Legacy Junior Varsity. Ropes led 17-5 in the first quarter. The Rebels fought back in the second, but still trailed 29-23 at the buzzer. The third quarter ended with Ropes up 48-36.
Brennan Bearden had 22 points. Landon Nale had 14. Brady Bryan had six. Bode Franklin had five. Kade Franklin and Branson Simental had four each. E.J. Mendez and Braxxin Partington had three apiece. Reese Williams had two.
Ropes 73, Whiteface 31
Next up, also on Thursday, the Eagles downed the Whiteface Antelopes 73-31.
Ropes led 24-13 at the end of the first quarter, then buried the Antelopes in the second for a 4417 lead. The third quarter saw Ropes up 57-29.
Bode Franklin had 16. Nale had 11. Bryan had nine. Kade Franklin and Simental had eight each. Cutter Stumbo and Braxxin Partington had seven each. Mendez had three. Williams and Darren Kizer had two each.
For the Antelopes, Cayden Timmons had nine. Auscar Gandara had eight. Josh Whitehead had seven. Noah Rendon had three. Isaak Soliz and Julio Borunda had two each.
Ropes 58, Robert Lee 38
The Eagles started Friday with a 58-38 win over Robert Lee. Ropes was up 17-8 in the first quarter and 26-18 at halftime. The Eagles led 40-29 at the end of the third period.
Bryan had 16 points. Kade Franklin had 14. Simental had 13. Bode Franklin had five. Landon Nale had four. Kizer, Williams and Partington had two each.
Borden County 63, Ropes 57
The Eagles’ only loss came on Friday, 63-57 to the host Borden County Coyotes. The Eagles trailed 19-16 at the end of the first quarter, but held a slim 29-28 lead at halftime. They were able to increase that lead to 47-42 at the end of the third quarter, but ran out of gas in the fourth.
Ropes 93, New Deal 72
On Saturday, the Eagles took the third place game from New Deal 93-72. The Eagles led 27-20 at the end of the first quarter, but trailed 45-42 at halftime. Ropes led 62-56 at the end of the third quarter and ran away with the fourth.
Kade Franklin had 17 points. Nale had 16. Bode Franklin had 15. Simental had 14. Kizer had 12. Williams and Stumbo had four each. Bryan, Mendez and Bearden had three each. Partington had two.
The Eagles will start district play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. hosting Seagraves.
