Ropes Eagles drop game against Brownfield Cubs

The Ropes Eagles hosted the Brownfield Cubs this past Tuesday for UIL non-district baseball where the Eagles lost 5-4 in a close one.

Brownfield was able to get the first point of the game off of a double from a popfly when they capatalized off of a groundout where the first hitter was able to score.

For Ropes it would be all Eagles as they would capture the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first when Kade Franklin drew a walk, scoring one run, and Brady Bryan singled, scoring two runs.

At the top of the second Brownfield was able to single a popfly where they would steal second and score off a line drive to center field which would put the score of the game 3-2 Ropes leading still.

Ropes would finally get another score at the bottom of the fourth after Kanon Buckner was walked, he then stole second, then Mason Marmolejo earned a single on a line drive which was able to send Buckner home two get Ropes the 4-2 lead.

Although it was looking good for Ropes they walked a Brownfield player at the top of the fifth, afterwards they would get a ground ball and reach on an error and get the Cubs another point with the score at 4-3 Ropes still leading the Cubs.

At the top of the sixth is where the Cubs tied the game after a Brownfield player hit a line drive and reached on an error by the shortstop, then the pitch right after Brownfield got a triple to send D. Arispe home and tie the game at 4-4.

At the top of the seventh is where the tides shifted for the Eagles as they had an error which the runner from Brownfield took advantage of hitting a ground ball and getting to first base. J. Hernandez hit a ground ball for the Cubs and reached on an error which sent Morin to second.

The Cubs would then hit a line drive that reached another error that sent J. Tijerina to second and on the same error sent a runner home for the winning run.

Mason Marmolejo led the team in hits with three and four at bats.

Kade Franklin, Brayden Hogg, Elijah Flores and Brady Bryan all had one hit a piece in their teams loss.

Marmolejo had four strikeouts on 17 batters faced along with Kade Franklin striking out three batters facing 16 of them throughout their game.

The Ropes Eagles progress to 7-2 on the season with their next game of the season going up against the Sundown Roughnecks this upcoming Friday as the home team for the start of district play.
