Ropes Eagles earn road win

The Ropes Eagles earned their first win of the season against the Boys Ranch Roughriders under first year Head Football Coach Beau Riker.

The Eagles had a good team win as they beat the Roughriders with a score of 31-12, scoring in every quarter of the game.

The first quarter was an eventful one as the Eagles were the first team on the board thanks to a touchdown pass from Hayden Torres to Williams from 28-yards out. From there on the Roughriders were able to put together a productive drive capping it off with a seven-yard run although missing the extra point making the game 7-6, with the Eagles still leading.

The Eagles were not done yet though, they scored their second touchdown of the first quarter with another touchdown pass from Torres, this time to Branson Beck from 21-yards out and extending their lead making the score 14-6, with a made field goal from Williams who had made both his PAT’s in the first quarter.

Although it was a good first quarter for the team it was a very back and forth game up until this point as the Roughriders scored another touchdown from a 19yard pass and missed the twopoint conversion to tie the game up, making the score 14-12, with Ropes still leading in the game.

The Ropes Eagles still had a productive drive for the second quarter as they had another score with Beck running the ball in from five yards out and another Williams kick making the score at the end of the half 21-12, with Ropes in the driver’s seat.

The second half was all Ropes as they had another touchdown from Torres although this one was with his rushing ability from 13-yards out and extending the lead another touchdown, but not without his kicker’s premium accuracy from Williams making his fourth PAT of the game. The third quarter was fairly uneventful as that was the only scoring due to the amazing defensive play from both teams.

The scoring ended off with yet another kick from Williams this time from 29-yards, which he nailed to put the final touches on the game making the score 31-12, and helping Ropes take the game away from Boys Ranch and putting their first mark on the winning column of the season.

With great play calling and great play adjustments this Ropes Eagles team will be a hard team to break down.

Both teams had the exact number of plays on both sides and the Eagles just put on a show with quarterback Torres lighting up the defense for 127 passing yards and rushing for 165-yards leading his team in both categories. His longest pass of the game being 44-yards through the air and his longest run being a 42-yard run and throughout the whole game only throwing one interception. He still picked up two touchdowns through the air and one on the ground.

For Torres it was a really good game through the air and even leading his team in rushing yards. The run game was dominant by the Eagles putting up a total of 320 rushing yards throughout the entire game. Benjamin Saldivar was responsible for 116 yards on the ground and the teams top receiver for the game was Williams hauling in two receptions for 72yards and one touchdown with his biggest gain of the game being 44-yards.

The defense for the Eagles were flying around while Jace Adams lead the team in tackling with a total of six tackles, six assists and two tackles for loss, which contributed largely to the team as he had some key moments in the game and a couple of Eagles that got sacks to pressure the other team’s quarterback.

Eagles Broxton Varnell who had a sack and Braxxin Partington who had one alongside him in their game played well. It was a good game defensively as they only let up 80 yards through the air and 167 on the ground attack.

The Ropes Eagles have their upcoming game this Thursday against Eunice, New Mexico as the away team at 7:30 p.m., Texas time and plan to continue their dominant performance, hopefully improving that stat in the win column.
