The Ropes Eagles played host to the Seagraves Eagles for a district baseball matchup this past Saturday, resulting in Ropes run ruling them 24-0 across five innings.
The game started slow as Ropes would only lead 1-0 through two innings before they exploded for 15 runs in the third inning and eight in the fourth inning to ultimately secure the win.
Ropes dominated the team stats, besting Seagraves 14-3 in hits, 8-3 in walks drawn and 1-7 in errors committed.
“All of our players are doing a good job of seeing the ball well right now. From top to bottom, our lineup has executed well at the plate,” Ropes Head Baseball Coach Nathan Flores said. “Our bench also does a good job coming into the game in certain spots, and most of the time they are able to contribute offensively. At times, it’s difficult setting the lineup for batters seven through nine because there are several that can do well in those spots. It’s a good problem to have I guess. Our defense compliments our offense well. Some innings were able to get three outs pretty quickly, and that transfers into our momentum offensively and allows the boys to get into a groove.”
That offensive depth showed against Seagraves, as their production came from any and everywhere. Standouts against Seagraves included second baseman Brayden Hogg going 2/4 with four runs-batted-in, three runs scored, a double and a stolen base, shortstop Kade Franklin going ¼ with three RBI’s, two runs scored, two stolen bases and a walk, left fielder Maddux Sierra going 4/5 with four stolen bases, three runs scored and two RBI’s, and first baseman Cason Kucel going 2/3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored.
Others included catcher Zach Ramirez going 3/3 with two RBIs, third baseman Garland Higginbotham going 1/1 with two RBI’s, two runs scored, two stolen bases and a walk, and Ryland Kieth with four runs scored, two stolen bases and two walks.
Kieth would also handle the majority of the mound duties, pitching three scoreless innings while holding Seagraves to two hits and one walk, and striking out five batters. He’d be relieved by Jaivyth Cruz in the fourth inning, who finished the game out with two scoreless innings, only surrendering a hit and two walks while striking out two batters.
The win improves Ropes to 16-4 overall and 6-0 in district play, which puts them first in the 2A District 4 baseball standings.
They’ll be back in action for a series against Sundown this week. They host the Roughnecks early in the week before playing them on the road on Friday at 11 a.m.
