Ropes steal win from Seagraves 17-14, at home

The Ropes Eagles took down the Seagraves Eagles this past Friday in an defensive battle 1714, as the away team.

The Eagles were the first ones to get on the board early on in the game as they earned a touchdown early in the first on the ground with Hayden Torres running it in from 13 yards out. Ropes were up 7-0 after Reese Williams made the PAT.

After that it took another quarter for the team to get back on the board, this time thanks to a Colton Mortensen pass to Kade Franklin from 33 yards out. Another made PAT from Reese Williams extended the lead to 140 at the half.

The Eagles would give up a big run to start off the second half making the game 14-7 in the blink of an eye.

It would be a long one but Seagraves were able to get back on the board once more as they punched in a six-yard run to tie the game at 14 late in the fourth quarter.

Ropes hero for the night would be Reese Williams as late in the fourth quarter with the game on the line he hit a 35-yard field goal to win the Ropes Eagles the game making the team 3-0 in district play, trailing only New Home.

The team had a hard fought win as they had a balanced attack on the night offensively earning 154 passing yards on the night and 137 rushing yards to go along with them. The team did well on third down efficiency as they went 7-14 on the night for third downs. The Eagles were also 100 percent from the field as they converted on all of their fourth down attempts.

Kade Franklin for Ropes had a good game as he went 12-21 with 154 passing yards and a touchdown on the night with only one interception thrown on the night. His longest pass of the night would be to Colton Mortensen who went 33 yards.

The leading receiver for the Ropes Eagles was Mortensen who had five catches that went for 92 yards and one touchdown on the night. Kaden Riker was the second receiver as he had three catches for 42 yards and Mason Marmolejo had three catches as well for 19 yards. Reese Williams had a catch for one yard on the night as well for the Eagles.

The leader in rushing yards was due to Hayden Torres who led the team with 27 attempts as he went for 128 yards and a touchdown on the night. Bregg Feldman had three attempts with eight yards and Jacob Wyatt had one carry for one yard on the night.

The Ropes defense had their work cut out for them as they allowed 274 total yards of offense from Seagraves as 58 of those yards were through the air and 216 yards were on the ground from the rushing attack. The defense were able to force mistakes on the Seagraves offense as they had forced one turnover due to an interception.

Kolter Dockery was responsible for the teams only interception last Friday night and Brent Buckner was able to force a fumble but the team was not able to recover it resulting in the team only forcing one turnover all game.

Brady Bryan led the team in tackles as he had five solo tackles, four assists in tackles and two tackle for losses throughout the night. Williams had a night as well as he had four solo tackles and three assists, Dockery had three tackles as well as 11 assists, Jonathan Fowler had three tackles and five assists with three tackles for losses, Mike Sanchez had three assists with eight assists and one tackle for a loss.

The team played a pretty clean game as there was only four penalties for Ropes that went for a total of 25 yards lost for them. Ropes had control of the ball most of the time as they ran a total of 62 plays compared to Seagraves 53 on the night.

Ropes moves to 3-0 in district play while Seagraves falls to 1-2 winning their only game against Plains 28-6. Ropes next game will be against Plains as they will travel to their stadium to try to stay undefeated in district play. The game will be at Plains and start at 7 p.m.
