Ropes suffers road loss against Leopards

The Ropes Eagles took on the New Home Leopards this past Friday as the visiting team for UIL District Baseball Action where the Eagles lost 13-5.

Ropes was on the board first with two runs going for them in the top of the first inning after Kade Franklin doubled, scoring the two.

In the bottom of the second inning, New Home answered with a run of their own after they hit a single on a line drive to right field to cut the Ropes lead down to one, 2-1.

The Leopards flipped the game around after they scored eight runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. The score sat at 9-2, New Home leading.

New Home added onto their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning getting two more runs, both on errors committed by the Eagles making the score 11-2.

Ropes finally added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning after Cutter Stumbo hit a single on a ground ball to right field to drive in Garrett Morgan and Stumbo off of errors to make the score 11-4, New Home still leading.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, New Home had another run after their batter hit a fly out to right field to send a runner in to make the score 12-4.

The Eagles got their final run of the game in the top of the sixth inning after Mason Marmolejo grounded out into fielder’s choice and getting Kucel in to make the score 12-5.

Franklin took the loss for the Eagles as he gave up eight hits and two runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking four in the game.

Stumbo went in for relief for the Ealges as he gave up three hits and two runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking none.

Franklin drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Eagles with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-4 on the day. The Eagles turned two double plays in the game.

The Ropes Eagles fall to 17-5 on the season while going 8-2 in district play sitting in second place in district behind New Home.

The Eagles finished off their series against New Home this past Tuesday at home and will face off against Smyer this upcoming Monday as the visiting team at 4 p.m.
