Roughettes beat Sudan, 41-36, move to 2-0

This past Tuesday the Sundown Roughettes basketball team went on the road to take on the Sudan Nettes, winning 41-36.

The win moves the Roughettes to 2-0 this season with both of their wins coming on the road.

“Two games into the season, I’m very pleased with our balance. Every player is contributing in some way when they are on the floor, and that is a big deal moving forward with what we are trying to achieve,” Roughettes Head Coach Jared Neighbors said. “Last night, the moment of the game for me was when we got down by 10 in the third and we just kept battling and fought back to finish the third on the run and then closed out the game how we did in the fourth. It all starts with our defense and everyone communicating and doing their job. I’m very pleased with everyone and they truly are all shining right now.”

Sundown outscored Sudan 20-15 in the final two quarters to secure the victory, which involved several standout performances including senior Araceli Ibarra who led the Roughettes in scoring with 11 points on 5/8 shooting, also recording five steals, two assists and a rebound.

Senior Camry Jourden scored nine points on 3/11 shooting, also going 3/5 from the free throw line and recording six steals, four rebounds and two assists.

Junior Kaytlin Clausen scored eight points on 4/5 shooting, adding two rebounds, two steals and a block.

And rounding out the statistical standouts was junior Kyndal Taggart, who dominated the glass with 20 rebounds, also recording four points, two assists and two blocks.

The Roughettes will look to build those great performances in the winning effort as they face off against the undefeated Ira Lady Bulldogs over the weekend.

They’ll look to hand them their first loss and then get right back in action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a game at Denver City.
