Roughettes end their season against Forsan

The Sundown Roughettes took on the Forsan Lady Buffs this past Friday and Saturday for UIL Softball play in the Regional Quarterfinals where the Roughettes lost in two games.

Forsan 7, Sundown 1

For the first game of the series Forsan was able to take down Sundown 7-1 on Friday.

Forsan was the first team on the board in the bottom of the second inning after their batter hit a double, scoring one run and another batter hit a pop out, scoring one run to make the score 2-0.

The Lady Buffs extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after they hit a solo home run, scoring one run, a single, scoring one run and another single, scoring one run to make the new score 5-0.

Sundown got their only run of the game in the top of the sixth inning after Destiny Garza doubled on a line drive to right field, scoring one run to make the score 5-1.

The final runs by the Lady Buffs came from the bottom of the sixth inning when their batter hit a single, scoring two runs and making the final score 7-1.

Breigh Gregory took the loss for the Roughettes as she gave up eight hits and seven runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking two in the game.

Brynly Gregory, Garza and Emry Jourden each collected two hits for the Roughettes. Garza went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Forsan 2, Sundown 1

For the second game of the series, it was a defensive battle from the start where the Lady Buffs were able to take the 2-1 win after eight innings, ending the Roughettes great season.

The Roughettes were the first team on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Araceli Ibarra singled on a line drive to right field, scoring one run to make the score 1-0.

Forsan was able to tie the game up at the top of the seventh inning when it mattered most by hitting a double on a line drive to send a runner in and tie the game at one apiece.

The Lady Buffs took the lead and the win in the top of the eight inning after their batter hit a double to send in a runner and end the game 2-1.

Garza took the loss for the Roughettes as she gave up six hits and two runs (two earned) over eight innings, striking out five and walking one in the game.

Ibarra went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Roughettes in hits. Sundown turned in one double play in the game.

The Roughettes end their season with a 30-6-1 record on the season as they are Co-District Champions, Bi-District Champions and Area Champions. The team was coached by Head Softball Coach Meagan Gonzalez.
