The Sundown Roughettes took on the Lockney Lady Horns this past Saturday for their UIL District Softball matchup where the Roughettes won 20-0 after four innings.
Sundown was the first team on the board in the top of the second innings after an error scored one run, Ariel Hernandez singled, scoring one run, Emry Jourden drew a walk, scoring one run, Breigh Gregory doubled, scoring one run, and Destiny Garza doubled, scoring two runs.
The Roughettes weren’t done as they scored five runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. Ericka Posadas doubled, scoring one run, Jourden doubled, scoring two runs and Garza singled, scoring two runs.
For the top of the fourth inning Sundown was able to score nine runs on seven hits to end it off. Jourden was struck by a pitch, driving in one run, Brynly Gregory doubled, scoring two runs, Paola Huerta was struck by a pitch, driving in one run, Camry Jourden singled, scoring one run, Ciena Jackson tripled, scoring one run and Hernandez singled, scoring one run.
Garza earned the win for the Roughettes as she struck out 10 batters, giving up two hits and zero runs over four innings while walking one.
The Roughettes piled up 16 hits in the game. Garza drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Roughettes with three runs batted in. They went 2-for-3 on the day. Jouden and Hernandez each collected three hits for Sundown. Posadas and Ibarra each collected multiple hits for the Roughettes. Gregory led Sundown with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. Jourden stole two bases. Sundown stole six bases in the game.
The Sundown Roughettes progressed to 19-3-1 on the season while remaining undefeated in district play with a perfect 6-0 record. The Roughettes faced off against the New Deal Lady Lions this past Tuesday and this upcoming Saturday for district play.
