The Sundown Roughettes took on the Tahoka Lady Bulldogs for district basketball play as the visiting team where they won 4033.
The first quarter of the game had both teams struggling to get anything going, but Sundown was able to overcome their slump as they outscored Tahoka 9-7 taking a two point lead.
For the second quarter of play the Roughettes would slow down and give up the lead as they would only be able to put up four points while giving up eight to the Lady Bulldogs.
The score at the halftime break was Sundown trailing 1513.
Leading the Roughettes in scoring at the half was both Allie McCormick and Hannah Holdman as both had three points, Holdman’s coming from free throws and McCormick’s with two points inside the paint with one free throw.
Going into the third quarter of play Sundown would find their feet as they would go on a 13 point run while holding Tahoka to nine points in the third.
For the final quarter of the game Sundown would end the game with their great defense and high powered offense as they outscored Tahoka 14-9 to end the game and give them the district win .
Leading the Roughettes in scoring on the night was both Camry Jourden and McCormick as both finished with 10 points on the night.
Aria Hogan finished with eight points, Holdman had five, Emily Rodgers had three and both Aubrey Rodgers and Kyndal Taggart finished with two points a piece.
Sundown finished their season with a 17-14 record on the season while going into a fourway tie with Ropes, Tahoka and Plains having a 7-5 record in district.
All of the teams competed in Brownfield this past Thursday and Friday for a play-in tournament to get the seeding and to see who is out of playoffs.
Sundown won their game against the Tahoka Bulldogs once more in the tournament. The Roughettes then flipped a coin with the Ropes Lady Eagles who had won their game against the Plains Cowgirls.
The Roughnecks will face off against McCamey this Monday in Big Spring at 6 p.m.
