The Sundown Roughettes hosted the Hale Center Lady Owls this past Tuesday for UIL District Softball Action where the Roughettes won 15-0 after four innings.
Sundown was able to jump out to a seven run lead in the bottom of the first inning after Breigh Gregory singled, scoring two runs, Destiny Garza doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Paola Huerta singled, scoring two runs and Emry Jourden doubled, scoring one run, making the score 7-0 early.
The Roughettes added onto their lead in the bottom of the second inning when Camry Jourden tripled, scoring one run, another error scored one run and Huerta doubled, scoring two runs to make the score 11-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, Sundown added one more run after Camry Jourden hit a single on a hard ground ball to center field to make the score 120.
The scoring for the Roughettes finished in the bottom of the fourth inning after Breigh Gregory hit a double to send in Ariel Hernandez and Garza hit a double on a line drive to center field to send in both Breigh and Brynly Gregory to make the final score 15-0.
Breigh Gregory earned the win for the Roughettes as she gave up three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking none throughout their game.
The Roughettes piled up 14 hits in the game. Huerta led the way with four runs batted in. They went 2-for-3 on the day. Brynly Greogry, Garza, Jourden and Ericka Posadas each collected multiple hits for Sundown.
Huerta led the team with four RBI’s in the game while teammate Garza had another three. The team as a whole had 12 on the day.
The Sundown Roughettes progress to 25-4-1 on the season while their district record goes up to 12-1 as they’re tied for first place with Floydada.
The Roughettes finish off their district schedule as they played against Hale Center Lady Owls this past Saturday at home at 11 a.m.
