The Sundown Roughnecks traveled to New Home to take on the Leopards this past Tuesday for UIL District Baseball action where the Roughnecks lost 17-1, after five innings.
Sundown got their only point in the top of the first inning after Jaxon Rodriguez hit a solo home run to left field to take the early lead 1-0.
Unfortunately for the Roughnecks they would not be able to hold onto the lead as the Leopards had three runs go for them in the bottom of the second. Two different batters hit sacrifice fly’s and one hit a double, each scoring a run making the game 31.
New Home poured it on in the bottom of the third inning after they drew a walk, scoring one run, hit a double, scoring one run, Sundown committed an error, scoring two runs, hit a single, scoring two runs, hit a triple, scoring three runs and hit another double to score one more run, making the score 13-1.
New Home had their final runs come from the bottom of the fourth after two solo home runs and another single sent in a runner to make the final score of the game 17-1.
Rayden Flores took the loss for Sundown as he gave up three hits, five runs (five earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking five.
Caleb Clausen appeared in relief for the Roughnecks as he gave up nine hits and 12 runs (five earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking two.
Landry Farrar and Rodriguez each collected one hits for the Roughnecks. Rodriguez went 1for-2 at the plate as the 3-hole hitter led the team with one run batted in. Sundown turned one double play in the game.
The Roughnecks fall to 9-9 on the season as the go down to 6-5 in district play sitting in fourth place behind New Home, Ropes and Smyer.
Sundown played their last game of district play against the New Home Leopards this past Friday at home at 5 p.m.
