The Smyer Bobcats hosted the Ropes Eagles this past Tuesday night for district play where they were still searching for their first district win; unfortunately they couldn’t get it as they lost to the Eagles 73-40.
At the start of the game, Smyer was able to keep it close with the Eagles as they were outscored 18-13, falling by fivepoints early in the game.
The second quarter is where things got out of hand for the Bobcats as the Ropes Eagles were able to score 25 points before the halftime break while Smyer was only able to get four to go making the score 43-17, going into the halftime break.
Smyer’s leading scorer at the halftime break was Micah Zapata with nine points, seven of them in the first quarter of play.
For the Ropes Eagles the leading scorer at the half was Cutter Stumbo with 12 points, seven of them coming from the second quarter of play.
Out of the half Ropes was able to outscore Smyer once more, this time 18-12, extending their lead by six more points heading into the fourth quarter of play.
For the final quarter of the game, Ropes let off the gas as they scored 12 points to end the game while the Bobcats had 11 points fall for them in their district loss.
Leading the Bobcats in scoring on the night was Zapata with 16 points throughout the night. Rylan Smith had eight, Austin Martinez had six points, Mason Medart had four and both Micah Stevens and Skyler Pond finished with two points a piece.
For the Ropes Eagles their leading scorers on the night were both Bode Franklin and Brennan Bearden with 14 points a piece. Cutter Stumbo had 12, Reese Williams had 10 points, Kade Franklin had nine, Branson Simental had six points, Kaden Riker had five and Brady Bryan finished with three points in the team’s win.
For the rebounding in the game, Smyer was able to outrebound the Ropes Eagles 40to-37 in the game as both teams had the same amount of blocks with two each. Ropes was able to outdo Smyer in assists 19-to-8 and steals with 15 steals while the Bobcats only had seven in the game.
Smyer shot the ball for 30% from the field while going 15% from long-range shots and 53% from the charity stripe.
For the Ropes Eagles they shot the ball for 38% from the field while going 35% from threepointer range and 61% from the free-throw line.
The Smyer Bobcats fall to 516 on the season while going down to 0-9 in district play. The Bobcats last game of the season is against the Plains Cowboys this Tuesday night at home at 6:15 p.m.
For the Ropes Eagles their last district game of the year is against the Sundown Roughnecks this Tuesday at home at 6:15 p.m. after going up against the Plains Cowboys this past Friday night on the road.
