The Smyer Bobcats went on the road to take on the Sudan Hornets this past Tuesday for district play where the team lost 80-37.
The first quarter for the Bobcats was a slugfest as both teams were rolling offensively. Smyer was able to get nine to go in the first but couldn’t hold Sudan to the same as they let up 15 for the Hornets to take the lead.
The second quarter was tough for the Bobcats as they were outscored 23-13 due to the barrage that Sudan had layed down. Sudan had six threepointers hit for them in the second as they pulled away with the lead.
The score at the half was Smyer trailing Sudan 45-22.
Leading the Bobcats in scoring at the half was Rylan Smith who had six points, four of them from down low in the paint.
In the third quarter of play their struggles would continue offensively as they would only be able to get five more points to fall while allowing the Hornets to get 15 go to. Going into the fourth quarter of play Sudan held the lead over the Bobcats 58-27.
For the final quarter of play it was all over as Smyer would go on a 10 point run to finish off the game and allow Sudan to get an additional 22 points before the game ended.
Smith would lead the team in scoring at the end of the game as he would earn himself 11 points throughout the night with five of them coming from the second half of play.
Two Bobcats finished with six points a piece in Micah Stevens and Micah Zapata and two more Bobcats finished with five points a piece in Mason Medart and Brayden Wade, Ryann Gutierrez had two and Gio Garcia finished with one point on the night.
The Smyer Bobcats fall to 315 on the season while slipping to 0-4 in district play.
The team played against the Ralls Jackrabbits this past Friday at home and will be at home against the New Deal Lions this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
