The Smyer Bobcats took on the Tahoka Bulldogs this past Monday and Tuesday where they split the series winning Monday and dropping a game Tuesday.
Smyer 11, Tahoka 2
For the Bobcats, they were on the board first after Aiden Martinez was struck by a pitch and Jose Paradez being walked. Each scored one run at the top of the first.
The Bobcats allowed a run off of an error that sent the Tahoka runner home to make the score 2-1, at the bottom of the first.
Smyer had another run go for them at the top of the second after Christian Hernandez scored on an error by the Tahoka first baseman making the score 3-1.
At the bottom of the third Tahoka would try to keep the game close by adding another run to their total as they scored off of an error by the Bobcat third baseman to make the score 3-2, Smyer leading.
The Bobcats offense woulc come alive at the top of the fourth as they had three runs go for them.
Smyers’ Hernandez, Aiden Martinez and Colton Burriss all scoring to make the score 6-2 with the Bobcats holding onto the lead.
Smyer would add the final touches to the game by scoring five runs on four hits at the top of the seventh innings. Dylan McPhail doubled, scoring one run, Austin Martinez doubled, scoring one run, Skylar Pond singled, scoring two runs and Burriss singled, scoring one run.
Kaden Price earned the win for the Smyer Bobcats on the hill. He gave up six hits and two runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking two.
Pond led the Bobcats with three runs batted in as he went 1for-4 on the day.
Martinez, Burriss, McPhail, Parades and Pond each collected one hit for Smyer.
Price paced Smyer with two walks. The Bobcats had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Smyer turned one double play in the game.
Tahoka 6, Smyer 2
For the start of the second game in Smyer, Tahoka was able to open things up with a run in after their batter was hit with bases loaded to send in a runner from third base making the score 1-0 at the top of the first.
The Bulldogs would keep it going on the Bobcats as they got another three runs at the top of the second.
The batter hit a double on a line drive to left field where they sent in two runners. After that, they would ground out the hitter but still get a runner in making the score 4-0 Tahoka leading.
Smyer would answer back at the bottom of the third getting two runs, Burriss hitting a triple to send in Hernandez and Aiden Martinez singles on a pop fly bringing in Burriss to make the score 4-2, Smyer still trailing.
For the rest of the contest Smyer’s offense would not be able to hold them as their defense would allow another two runs before the game was over.
Aiden Martinez took the loss for the Bobcats as the reliever went three and one-third innings giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit, striking out eight and walking six. Austin Martinez opened the game up for the Bobcats as he gave up one hit and four runs over two innings, striking out two and walking five.
Burriss, Paradez and Martinez each collected one hit for Smyer. Burriss and Martinez were a onetwo punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Smyer Bobcats. Smyer didn’t commit a single error in the field, Kaden Price had the most chances in the field with 11.
Smyer moves to 6-4-1 on the season while going 2-2 in district play splitting both series against Tahoka and Sundown.
The Bobcats next games are against the Seagraves Eagles as they played them this Friday as the visiting team and will play them again this Monday as the home team for district play.
