The Smyer Bobcats played their series against the Seagraves Eagles this past Friday and Monday where they lost their first matchup Friday and won their second game at home on Monday.
Seagraves 4, Smyer 3
Smyer was the first to open up the scoring in the game at the top of the fifth after Skylar Pond hit a double on a fly ball that let Aiden Martinez and Kaden Price score making the game 2-0 Bobcats leading.
Smyer was able to get another run in the top of the seventh off of a single from Ryan Gutierrez that sent Dylan McPhail home to make the score 3-0 with the Bobcats leading the Eagles.
Seagraves wasn’t going away though as they were able to tie the game at the bottom of the seventh thanks to a single from the batter and an error. Seagraves and Smyer were tied at 3 a piece in the seventh.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats they let an Eagle runner score off of an error by the shortstop and lose the close game as the visiting team for their first district matchup against the Eagles.
Colton Burriss stepped on the mound for the Bobcats where he surrendered three hits and three runs (zero earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out four and walking two.
Smyer tallied nine hits in the game. Pond led the Bobcats with two runs batted in. They went 2for-4 on the day. Smyer turned one double play in the game.
Austin Martinez and Skylar Pond each collected two hits for Smyer.
Smyer 9, Seagraves 8
Smyer was the first team on the board as they built up a four run lead in the third innings and held off Seagraves offense. The Bobcats had Skylar Pond ground out, Colton Burriss singled, Seagraves committing an error and Aiden Martinez stealing home, each scoring one run.
At the top of the fourth Seagraves were able to turn the game around after they scored five runs on three hits to take the 5-4 lead.
At the bottom of the fourth it was Christian Hernandez that hit a single tying the game at five a piece.
The Eagles were ale to take the lead at the top of the sixth when one of their batters drew a walk then the other batter getting hit to extend their lead to 7-5.
The Bobcats came back to win the big district game over the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kaden Price tripled and Caleb Pearce singled, each scoring one run to take the win from the Eagles in district play.
Price stepped on the mound first for the Bobcats as he gave up three hits and five runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Aiden Martinez appeared in relief for the Bobcats as he threw for three innings giving up zero hits and two runs (two eanred), striking out eight and walking five.
The Bobcats piled up 11 hits in the game. Martinez, Price, Dylan McPhail and Austin Martinez each collected two hits for Smyer. Hernandez, Price, Burriss, Martinez, Pond and Pearce each drove in one run for the Bobcats. Martinez stole two bases for the team. The Bobcats as a whole stole five bases throughout the game.
Smyer progresses to 5-3 on the season while going up to 3-4 in district play. The Bobcats will face off against the Post Antelopes this Friday as the home team at 2 p.m. then again next Monday as the visiting team at 11 a.m.
