Smyer falls to Lockney at home

The Smyer Bobcats faced-off against the Lockney Longhorns this past Tuesday in district play where they lost on the road 70-52.

The first quarter of the game started off with Lockney taking a early lead over Smyer outscoring them 16-to-10, due to their great shooting beyond the arch as they hit four threes in the first quarter.

The second quarter of play was more of the same story as Lockney outscored Smyer once more, this time 24-to-15 and extending their lead to 15 points heading into the halftime break.

The score at the half was Smyer trailing 40-25.

Leading the Bobcats in scoring at the half was Micah Zapata who accumulated 10 points, six of them coming from beyond the arch.

The third quarter for the Bobcats started off well as they were able to put together 14 points in the third, but it didnt matter as the Longhorns were able to get another 18 points to fall for them before the final quarter of play.

For the final quarter of play Smyer was able to outdo Lockney in points 13-to-12, but not able to come away with the victory in district play.

The Bobcats had two players in double digits for scoring on the night in Rylan Smith who finished with 17 on the night and Zapata who ended the game with 14 of his own.

Brayden Wade had nine, Mason Medarrt and Gio Garcia both had four and Micah Stevens and Austin Martinez both had another two in the teams loss.

The Smyer Bobcats will fall to 6-19 on the year while going 08 in district play.

The teams next opponent in district play is against the no. 6 Floydada Whirlwinds this Tuesday as the visiting team at 7:45 p.m.
