The Smyer Lady Cats took on the Morton Maidens on the road for district play where the Lady Cats won 70-14.
At the start of the game, the Lady Cats took a huge lead with neither team’s fouling away, as Smyer took a 30-2 lead going into the second quarter of the game.
For the second quarter of the game, it was closer as Smyer still outscored Morton 14-6, extending their lead to make it a 36-points game going into the halftime break.
Leading the Lady Cats in scoring at the halftime break was Maegan Smith with 14 points, eight of them from two-pointers.
For the Morton Maidens, the leading scorer at the half was Ada Torres with four points, all of them from inside the arch.
Coming out of the break, Smyer held the Maidens to just three points while they scored another 17 points to make the score, 61-11 heading into the final quarter of play.
For the fourth quarter of the game, Smyer put the game away by outscoring the Maidens 9-3 to take the big district win, 70-14.
The leading scorer for the Lady Cats was Smith with 19 points in their contest. Kira Posadas had 17 points, Kaia Brandon had 10, Rylee Riedel had eight, Ellie Nelson and Kenzie Zapata both had six points a piece and Jada Hernandez finished with four points.
For the Morton Maidens the leading scorer was Torres with seven points. Khloe Aguirre had five points and two Maidens finished with one point a piece in Blaize Garza and J’Lynn Marquez.
The Smyer Lady Cats progress to 21-8 on the season and 5-4 in district play sitting in fourth place of the district. The Lady Cats next game of district play is against the Seagraves Lady Eagles this Friday on the road at 6:15 p.m. after going against the Whiteface Lady Lopes this past Tuesday at home.
For the Morton Maidens they fall to 2-20 on the season and go down to 0-10 in district play. The Maidens last game of district play is against the Sundown Roughettes this Friday at home at 6:15 p.m. after going against the Plains Cowgirls this past Tuesday on the road.
