Challenging arena conditions didn’t slow down South Plains College as the Texans and Lady Texans put together another strong weekend at the New Mexico Junior College Rodeo, held Sept. 24-26 at the Jake McClure Arena in Lovington.
Rain early in the weekend created thick, wet arena conditions and contributed to slower times throughout the competition, but SPC battled through the conditions to send five athletes to the Short Go.
Jaxon Stoker highlighted the weekend for the Texans, qualifying for the Short Go in both tie-down roping and team roping on his way to a second-place finish in the Men’s All-Around standings.
Stoker entered the tie-down roping Short Go in sixth after posting a 12.2-second run in the opening round. He improved to a 10.3 in the Short Go, giving him a two-run average of 22.5 seconds and a third-place finish, earning 90 points.
Stoker also found success as a header in team roping. After qualifying 10th with a 9.9-second run, he stopped the clock at 8.3 in the Short Go. His 18.2-second average was good for third place and another 80 points.
With 170 points between the two events, Stoker finished second in the Men’s All-Around standings.
On the women’s side, Kameryn White continued her strong start to the season with Short Go appearances in goat tying and barrel racing.
White qualified 10th in goat tying with a 9.7-second run and entered the barrel racing Short Go in fifth. In barrels, White followed her first-round performance with a 17.80-second run in the Short Go, finishing with a 36.16-second average and third place overall. The finish earned her 105 points.
White finished the weekend with 170 points and tied for the Women’s All-Around title, continuing her strong start to the 2026 season.
South Plains College will return to the arena Oct. 1-3 when the Texans and Lady Texans travel to compete at the Clarendon College Rodeo.
