Sundown Roughettes off to a hot-start

The Sundown Roughettes are off to a hot start in their basketball season as they are now 3-0 after beating Floydada, Sudan and Muleshoe.

Sundown 82, Floydada 42

In the Roughettes first game of the season it was straight domination in every quarter as the team outscored them in the first quarter 19-6, taking a big lead to start the game.

In the second quarter, Sundown put up another 20 points while holding the Lady Winds to 11 points, extending their lead to 39-17 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter Sundown picked up where they left off as they outscored Floydada 17-12 making the score 56-39.

In the final quarter of play they put a ribbon on their win as they scored a game high of 26 points of the fourth while holding Floydada to 13 points, giving them the 82-42 win.

Allie McCormick led the team in points for Sundown with 33 points. Hannah Holdman had another 15 points, both Camry Jourden and Kyndal Taggart both had 13 points, Talia Acevedo finished with five.

Sundown 69, Sudan 57 For the Roughettes second game of the season it was a closer game against the Lady Hornets, but they still won 69-57 at home.

Sundown took a lead in the first quarter as they outscored Sudan 21-13, taking a eight point lead going into the second quarter of play.

During the team’s second quarter of the game they were able to outscore the Lady Hornets once more this time by holding them to only 13 points while they put up an additional 18 making the score 39-26 going into the halftime break.

Sudan finally outscored Sundown in the third quarter of the game, this time 15-12, cutting into the Roughettes lead making the score 51-41 going into the fourth quarter.

Although it was a close game, Sundown was able to hold off the Sudan offense with more offensive power of their own as they outscored the Lady Hornets 18-16 and taking the close win 6957.

Taggart led the team in scoring in their contest with 22 points. Holdman had 15 points, McCormick had 13, Araceli Ibarra had seven, Kadee Riley had six, Jourden had five and Kaytlin Clausen finished with one point.

Sundown 62, Muleshoe 42 With the Sundown Girls Basketball team on a two-game win streak they went into this game with some momentum where they won by 20 points, 62-42.

The Roughettes started off red-hot by putting up 23 points while holding down the Lady Mules to only 10 points, taking a 13-point lead off rip.

The second quarter was quiet from both teams as Sundown had six points before the half while Muleshoe had another eight points go for them to make the score 29-18, going into the half.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Roughettes and Lady Mules had a back and forth battle in the third quarter as Sundown outscored Muleshoe 15-14 going into the final quarter of the game with the score sitting at 44-32.

In the end it was all Sundown as they put up 19 points while holding Muleshoe to 10 taking the win and remaining undefeated on the season with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Sundown Roughettes played against the Hale Center Lady Owls this past Saturday at home and will get to face off against the Olton Lady Mustangs this Tuesday at home at 6:15 p.m.
