Sundown splits district road games

The Roughnecks went to New Home Tuesday to face a much taller, deeper Leopard team and took a 73-33 loss in district play.

Sundown struggled with the height of the Leopards in rebounding and shooting as shots got blocked and boards were taken by New Home.

The Roughnecks fell behind 27-10 in the first quarter and Sundown never recovered.

Outscored by 9,10, and 4 in the next three periods Sundown took a lopsided 73-33 defeat in district play.

The Roughnecks tried to regroup on Tuesday, January 10th with a home game against a very tough Seagraves squad.

The Roughettes visited New Home Tuesday night and lost a close game to the #1 ranked Lady Leopards 54-51.

New Home took a 7-0 lead as the Roughettes started slow with missed shots and turnovers, but Sundown rallied and ended the first quarter trailing, 13-8.

The Roughettes closed the gap in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Leopards by a basket to make it a 24-21 difference at the half.

In the third quarter, Sundown trimmed the New Home lead to a single basket to go into the final period behind, 35-37.

The Roughettes took the lead in the fourth, but could not keep it and lost 54-51 to the New Home squad.

It was the Roughettes most complete game of the season in a match-up against a team that was taller at every position and with a deeper bench.

Natalie Urias and Allie McCormick led Sundown scoring with 14 points apiece followed by Aria Hogan with 10 and Emma Holdman with 9.

The Roughettes will host Seagraves Lady Eagles on Tuesday, January 10th for their next district match-up.
