The Sundown Roughnecks went on the road to take on the Seagraves Eagles in district play where they lost in an overtime nail-bitter 52-51.
The first quarter of the game the Roughnecks dominated the game as they outscored the Eagles 18-to-8 to take the early lead in the game.
The second quarter was more of the same for Sundown as they poured onto their lead and would get another 18 points to go while holding Seagraves to only six points before the half.
The score at halftime was Sundown leading the Eagles 3614.
Leading the team in scoring at the halftime break was Roughneck Jayson Martinez who had 13 points at the half with nine of his points coming from beyond the arch.
The second half of the game turned sour for the Roughnecks as they went into the third quarter of play flat-footed and were outscored 14-to-2 to get their lead cut down to only 10 at the end of the third.
For the final quarter of play it was a back and fourth battle between the teams as Sundown tried their best to stand their ground but couldn’t stop the Seagraves offense and would allowed 18 points in the final quarter of play while getting eight of their own to fall to force overtime with the score all tied up at 46.
In the extra quarter of overtime the teams combined for a total of only 11 points scored. Unfortunately Sundown was on the wrong side of the comeback as Adan Escamilla earned the team four points and Branson Sanders got them one, it wasnt enough as Seagraves was able to hit back to back threes to win them the close game.
Leading the Roughnecks in scoring for the night was Martinez who had 15 points throughout the game.
Two more Roughnecks got in double digits in Escamilla who earned 12 points and Sanders who finished with 11 on the night.
Watson Evans finished with eight and Kye Powell got five to go in the teams heartbreaking loss.
Sundown falls to 5-12 overall and 1-1 in district play after their game.
The Roughnecks faced off against the Tahoka Bulldogs this past Friday at home and will take on the #3 Plains Cowboys at home at 7:30 p.m.
