Sundown takes down Post Antelopes at home

The Sundown Roughnecks hosted the Post Antelopes this past Saturday for UIL District Baseball Action where the Roughnecks won 10-7.

The first team on the board was Post in the top of the first inning after they drew a walk scoring one run taking the early 10 lead.

Sundown was able to respond and take the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Jaxon Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly and Landry Farrar singled, each scoring one run giving the Roughnecks the 2-1 lead.

Post was able to tie the game in the top of the third inning after they scored on an error commited by Sundown.

The Antelopes took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after their batter hit an inside the park home run to bring put the score at 4-2, giving Post the lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Sundown was able to turn the game around as they scored five runs on five hits to take the lead. The biggest blow for the Antelopes was when Roughneck Coen Nevarez drove in two on an 0-2 count. The score sat at 7-4 Sundown leading.

Post had the rest of their runs happen in the top of the fifth inning when the Roughnecks pitcher walked a runner and a batter hit a single tying the game at seven a piece.

Sundown took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, where the Roughnecks held onto their lead. Jayson Martinez singled, scoring one run, then an error followed to extend their lead to 10-7.

Rayden Flores earned the win for Sundown as he gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking four.

Rodriguez threw two innings of shutout ball for relief. He gave up two hits and zero runs, striking out six and walking two.

Rian Rose also threw for two innings in relief where he gave up five hits and five runs (two earned), striking out one and walking three throughout the game.

Sundown tallied 12 hits in the game. Caleb Clausen and Farrar each collected three hits for the Roughnecks. Nevarez and Martinez each drove in two runs for Sundown.

The Sundown Roughnecks progressed to 8-8 on the season and go up to 5-4 in district as they ended their two game series against the Antelopes this past Tuesday as the visiting team at 7 p.m.

The Roughnecks will finish up district play against the New Home Leopards next Tuesday at 5 p.m. as the visiting team and again next Friday at 5 p.m. at home.
