The Levelland Lobo Baseball team had three players in Rusty Johnson, Tyler Pemberton and Brayden Moore get invited to the GWTCA All-Star Baseball Game held at Lubbock Cooper, June 22 at 3 p.m.
Tyler Pemberton was invited for first base on the red team while his teammates Rusty Johnson and Brayden Moore are playing on the blue team as the catcher and pitcher.
This is Levelland’s ninth year having at least one player be invited to the All-Star game.
Head Baseball Coach Chris Portwood and Assistant Coach Brandon Coronado spoke very highly of his athletes and what a huge honor it is for Levelland to be in these situations.
“It wouldn’t happen if I didn’t have the coaching staff that I have, they pull the passion out of the players”, said Portwood.
Coach Coronado added onto what Coach Portwood said by adding, “It’s great leadership and great minds think alike, I pull the passion out and he puts the knowledge inside their minds.”
Not only did the team have three All-Star players but the had an All-State player in Noah Tienda at shortstop in his Junior year.
“We are extremely proud of all of these guys and blessed to be apart of their journey and I think everything that’s happening in Levelland is going great and that these are big moves that are going through the town,” said Portwood.
The coaches feel very blessed to be a part of the community and to have great athletes that put in the work day in and day out that want to be at practice everyday that strive to be better on and off the field.
“They deserve to be recognized, they earned it with all the work they put in; it’s an honor for All-Star as well as All-State, so for us it’s a huge win to see our guys make us proud”, explained Portwood.
“It was some of the best memories I had when playing this game, fortunately I got to play one in Austin and that’s what I was excited for when I got here. I knew about Levelland and the baseball program so I couldn’t wait to get this thing started and be apart of this with good expectations”, said Coronado.
The Lobos finished off their baseball season with a 14-15-1 record on the year while going 3-3 in district play to finish in fourth place and make it to playoffs.
Levelland won the last four out of five games and beating Estacado in 11 innings to take the fourth seed from the Matadors to make playoffs this past year.
