The Whiteface Antelopes took on the Sands Mustangs this past Tuesday in Lamesa for their bi-district matchup in basketball playoffs where they won 52-46.
The start of the first quarter had the Antelopes trailing the Mustangs 14-9 after Whiteface was able to drive into the paint whenever they wanted. Although they were able to do what they want in the paint, Sands also did what they want outside of it getting 12 of their 14 from long range.
For the second quarter of play Whiteface was able to get nine points to fall for them while they held Sands to only seven at the end of the half.
The score at the halftime break had Whiteface trailing 2118.
Leading the Antelopes in scoring at the halftime break was Jeremias Chavez who had 10 points, all of them coming from down low.
Going into the third quarter of the game both offenses came alive as Whiteface would be outscored 19-15 and trail by up to seven points heading into the fourth quarter. Sands had another 15 of their points from the third come from their outside shooting while Whiteface had 10 of their points come from inside the paint once more.
For the final quarter of the game Whiteface would lock in and hold Sands to only six points to end the game while they went on their own run to put together 19 points to end the game and take the big playoff win.
Jeremias Chavez led the team in scoring on the night with 20 points, 18 of his points from inside the paint.
Cayden Timmons had another 11 points, Ethan Kauffman had eight, Cesar Chavez had six, Auscar Gandara had four and Noah Rendon finished the game with three points in the teams playoff win.
The Whiteface Antelopes played against the Jayton Jaybirds this past Friday.
