The Whiteface Antelopes had a rough weekend with a 1-3 finish at the Way Out West High School Basketball Tournament in Whiteface.
Whiteface 49, Friona 45
The Antelopes started with a 49-45 win over Friona on Thursday. Friona led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Whiteface rallied in the second, cutting the lead to 27-26 at halftime.
The Antelopes led 43-36 at the end of the third quarter and were able to hang on during a Friona run in the fourth.
Ethan Kauffman had 14 points. Josh Whitehead had nine. Cayden Timmons had eight. Chris Olguin and Isaak Soliz had six each. Auscar Gandara had three. Julio Borunda had two and Noah Rendon had one.
Springlake Earth 29, Whiteface 19
Springlake-Earth and the Antelopes each had trouble finding the basket in game two on Thursday. The Wolverines led 87 at the end of the first quarter and 15-11 at halftime.
Springlake-Earth was up 2119 at the end of the third quarter, but held the Antelopes scoreless in the fourth.
Timmons had six points. Kauffman had five. Gandara had four. Whitehead and Rendon had two each.
Lockney 59, Whiteface 53
The Antelopes found themselves in an early hole and couldn’t quite dig out in the fourth quarter.
Lockney led 18-5 in the first quarter and 31-20 at halftime. The third quarter score was 51-38 for the Longhorns.
Timmons had 14 points. Gandara had 10. Whitehead and Soliz had nine each. Borunda had six and Rendon had five.
Shallowater JV 49, Whiteface 37
The Antelopes face Shallowater’s JV Saturday, coming away with a 49-36 loss. Shallowater led 12-6 at the end of the first quarter and 22-19 at halftime. The third quarter score was 36-25 for Shallowater.
Gandara had 15 points. Soliz had eight. Whitehead had six. Timmons had five. Borunda had three.
The Antelopes will be in Lorenzo next Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
