Rushing the ball to win the season opener, the Whiteface Antelopes defeated the Bryson Cowboys, 64-0, while running for over 200 yards.
“We take pride in our running game,” Whiteface Head Coach Jeff Jones said. “We always want to dictate the flow of the game.”
The vocal point for the ‘Lopes run game’ was (classification, position) Jaxon Hodge, finding open holes for big gains, running for 176 yards, and scoring three touchdowns.
Only getting five at-tempts to run the ball, Hodge made the most of every chance, racking up 35 yards per carry, consistently putting the ‘Lopes above the chains’.
In addition to Hodge’s rushing performance, (classification) quarterback and cornerback Izaak Soliz displayed his two-way ability, contributing touchdowns as a runner and snagging an interception and returning it for a 29-yard touchdown.
Continuing to impact the game defensively, Soliz was able to find the ball as a defender with another interception while racking up five total tackles.
On defense he’s (Soliz) always flying around,” Jones said. “He has a real good nose for football.”
Starting the season with a wide-margin victory on the road has built the morale in the locker room as the ‘Lopes want to continue performances like this.
“We’re sky high. We got some lofty goals,” Jones said about his team feeling good about themselves after a big win.
The ‘Lopes return home to play versus Valley Patriots, and they’re excited to play their first game at home.
