The Whiteface Lady Lopes high school girls went 2-2 in Canadian last weekend in the Canadian Basketball Tournament. The Lady Lopes start the season ranked sixth in UIL Class 1A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Thursday, Whiteface 38, Gruver 36
Whiteface downed the class 2A Gruver Lady Greyhounds in their first game Thursday, winning 38-36. They were tied at 10 at the end of the first period and Whiteface had a slim 18-17 lead at the halftime.
The score was tied up again at 29 each at the end of the third period.
Jaedyn Rector led the Lady Lopes with 10 points. Hannah Blankenship had seven. Timmyah Olenga had six. Lainey Sanders, Emma Ayers and Emily Blankenship had five each.
Thursday, New Home 51, Whiteface 41
The second game Thursday found the Lady Lopes with their hands full in a 51-41 loss to the New Home Lady Leopards, currently ranked seventh in class 2A by the TABC.
New Home led 14-13 at the end of the first period but held Whiteface to only three points in the second for a 23-16 lead.
New Home increased their lead to 41-29 in the third quarter. Olenga led the Lady Lopes with 10 points. Sanders, Ayers and Emily Blankenship had six each. Rector had five. Kylie Deavours and Hannah Blankenship had three each and Abi Soliz had two.
Friday, Pampa 32, Whiteface 15
Class 4A Pampa was on the schedule for Friday. The Lady Lopes lost a defensive battle 32-- 15.
Whiteface led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter but were shut out in the second for a 20-12 Pampa lead. The Lady Harvesters led 28-15 at the end of the third period.
Ayers led Whiteface with four points. Sanders, Hanna Blankenship and Olenga had three each.
Morgan Waggoner had two. Saturday, Whiteface 53, Fritch 22 On Saturday morning, the Lady Lopes downed class 2A Sanford-Fritch 53-22. Whiteface led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and 319 at halftime. The Whiteface girls led 47-14 at the end of the third period.
Olenga had 15 points. Sanders had 11. Emily and Hannah Blankenship had 10 each. Soliz had three. Rector and Deavours had two each.
The Lady Lopes will be in Kress on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. game.
