Whiteface moves on to regional quarterfinals

The Whiteface Lady Lopes went 2-0 in the UIL High School Girls basketball playoffs last week.

Whiteface took on the Wellman-Union Lady Cats this past Monday at Trinity Christian in Lubbock where they won 68-14 in the bi-district round of playoffs.

The first quarter of the game started off well for the Lady Lopes as they were able to outscore the Lady Cats 17-7 taking a early 10 point lead going into the second quarter.

For the second quarter of play Whiteface was able to get another 15 points to fall for them while they allowed eight points before the halftime break.

The score at the end of the half was Whiteface leading Wellman 32-14.

Leading the Lady Lopes in scoring at the half were both Hannah Blankenship and Tymmyah Olenga who both had nine points at the half.

Going into the third quarter of play Whiteface was able to outscore them once again, this time 21-8 extending their lead to 31 heading into the fourth quarter of the game.

For the final quarter of the game Whiteface put in their reserve players where they were still able to get 14 points before the end of the game while only allowing six points.

Leading Whiteface in scoring for the night was Hannah Blankenship who had 19 points on the night, nine of them coming from beyond the arch.

Jaedyn Rector had another 12 points, Olenga finished with 11, three Lady Lopes finished with six points in Emma Ayers, Emily Blankenship and Anais Soliz, Kylie Deavors had four and both Lainey Sanders and Abi Soliz finished with two points in the teams win.

Whiteface 61 O’Donnell 24 The Lady Lopes took on the O’Donnell Lady Eagles this past Thursday in Denver City for their area round matchup where they won 61-24.

The first quarter of the game started off well for the Lady Lopes as they outscored O’Donnell 12-2 early on from fastbreak points, since their defense was giving them great looks forcing the Lady Eagles to turn the ball over.

The second quarter was more of the same as Whiteface was able to get 16 points to fall for them before the half while only allowing seven points. The Lady Lopes had 12 of their points come from inside the paint in the second quarter.

The score at the halftime break was Whiteface leading 289.

Leading the Lady Lopes in scoring at the half was Jaedyn Rector who had eight points, all of them from inside the paint.

Going into the third quarter of play it would be another blowout quarter as Whiteface would outdo the Lady Eagles 155 extending their lead to 29 points going into the fourth quarter of play.

For the final quarter of the game Whiteface would be able to get 18 points to fall for them while they only let up 10 to get the area win in Denver City.

For the Lady Lopes it would be Rector to lead the team in scoring on the night with 23 points.

Lainey Sanders had another 11 points, Hannah Blankenship and Emma Ayers both had seven a piece, Tymmyah Olenga had six, Kylie Deavors had four and Emily Blankenship finished with three in the teams win.

Whiteface will await to see who wins between Klondike and Spur to play them in the regional quarterfinals Feb. 19.
