The Whitharral Panthers went 2-1 on their way to a secondplace finish in the Whitharral Invitational High School Basketball Tournament last weekend.
Nate Sansom was named defensive most valuable player as well.
Whitharral 82, Lazbuddie 23
The Panthers jumped out to a 24-10 first quarter lead and never looked back. They led 50-17 at halftime and 68-21 at the end of the third quarter.
Sansom led the Panthers with 29 points. Nomar Gomez had 14. Brent Robinson had nine. Jack Griffin had eight.
Landon Lee and Damian Rodriguez had seven each. Rayden Potter had four. Brolin Kennedy had three and Brier Mellberg had two.
Whitharral 67, Crosbyton 47
The Panthers took an early lead against Crosbyton as well. Whitharral was up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and comfortably ahead 35-14 at halftime. The third quarter score was 49-28.
Sansom had 22 points. Robinson had 15. Gomez had 14. Griffin had eight. Lee had six. Potter had two.
All Saints 49, Whitharral 37
The championship found the Panthers facing the All Saints Episcopal Warriors, who are ranked third in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Class 2A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
The Panthers trailed 13-9 at the end of the first period, but cut the All Saints’ lead by one at halftime, 22-19.
Whitharral went cold in the second half, missing even high percentage shots often. They were unable to stay with the Warriors’ offensive production in the second half, trailing 34-27 at the end of three periods.
Sansom had 16 points. Gomez had 10. Griffin had six. Robinson had five.
The Panthers will host Lorenzo at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
