Whitharral Lady Panthers top Klondike in overtime

The Whitharral Lady Panthers had their first round of playoffs against the Klondike Lady Cougars this past Monday night at Tahoka High School where the Lady Panthers won in a high-scoring game 72-69 in overtime.

In the first quarter of the game, Whitharral took control of the game as they outscored Klondike 20-15, taking a fivepoint lead going into the second quarter.

For the second quarter though, the Lady Cougars were able to catch up to Whitharral as they won the quarter 12-5, taking the lead making the score 27-25, heading into the halftime break.

For the Lady Panthers their leading scorer at the half was Paige Smith with 12 points, seven of them coming from the first quarter.

It was a back and forth game as Whitharral lost the third quarter to Klondike as well being outscored 11-10, making the score 38-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

Although it was close throughout, Whitharral was able to comeback and outscore Klondike 17-14 to tie the game up and send it into overtime.

In overtime though it was Whitharral that was able to top the Lady Cougars as they scored 17 points in overtime while their defense did just enough to hold Klondike to just 14 points, taking the Bi-District win on the road.

Smith led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 40 points in their contest. Madison Chavez had another 11 points, Sheridan Neal had seven, Elizabeth Reyna, Valeria Frias and Rylee Kristinek all had four points a piece and Trinity Coronado finished with two points on the night.

The Whitharral Lady Panthers progress to 23-7 on the season as they will get the winner of Motley County and Petersburg. The time and place of the game is TBD at the time of this writing.
