Whitharral Lady Panthers on track for district title

The Whitharral Lady Panthers took on the Wellman-Union Lady Cats this past Friday night on the road where they won 59-16.

At the start of the game, the Lady Panthers outscored Wellman-Union 15-8 to take the lead and make it a seven-point game.

In the second quarter of the game, Whitharral’s defense was able to hold the Lady Cats to only two points before the break while they scored another 25 of their own points to make the score 4010, going into their break.

Leading Whitharral in scoring at the halftime break were both Rylee Kristinek and Paige Smith with 16 points a piece.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Panthers outscored Wellman-Union 17-4, extending Whitharral’s lead 57-14.

For the final quarter of the game, the Lady Panthers put the game away with them and the Lady Cats tying the quarter with two points being scored from both teams, giving Whitharral the district win.

Smith led the Whitharral Lady Panthers in scoring on the night with 26 points. Kristinek finished with 23 points, Elizabeth Reyna had four points, Sheridan Neal had three, Valeria Frias had two points and Denae Sansom finished with one point.

The Whitharral Lady Panthers progress to 19-7 on the season as they stay undefeated in district play with a perfect 7-0 record, completing the sweep on the Wellman-Union Lady Cats. The Lady Panthers next game in district play is against the Meadow Lady Broncos this Friday on the road at 6 p.m. after they played against the Amherst Lady Dogs this past Tuesday night at home.
