The Whitharral Panthers took on the Nazareth Swifts this past Friday on the road where the Panthers won 42-38, in a close one.
Whitharral was the first team on the board in the first quarter after Brent Robinson had a rushing touchdown from 22yards out making the score 8-0 after a made PAT from Jack Griffin.
The Swifts responded afterwards with a passing touchdown form 18-yards out with a made PAT to tie the game at 8-8 in the first quarter.
The Panthers retook the lead in the first quarter after Griffin had a rushing touchdown from 16yards out and another made PAT to make the score 16-8.
Nazareth got the last score of the first quarter tying the game once more at 16-16 after they ran a touchdown in from 18-yards out.
The second quarter of the game was more quiet than the first with both teams only scoring once. Whitharral scored from a 12-yard rush from Robinson while the Swifts got their score through the air once more to go into the halftime with the score tied 22-22.
The second half of the game was a very defensive game as there was no scoring on either side of the ball in the third quarter.
For the final quarter of the game it was Whitharral that was on the board first after Griffin punched it into the endzone from one-yard out to make the score 28-22 after a missed PAT.
The Swifts were able to take the lead for the first time on the night after they ran in another touchdown from 20-yards out with a made PAT to make the score 30-28.
The Panthers retook the lead with another rushing touchdown from eight-yards out from Griffin to make the score 34-30.
Nazareth retook the lead off of a 50-yard kickoff return with a made PAT to take the lead late in the game to make the score 38-34.
Whitharral was able to pull the game out and win this one with their own kickoff return for a touchdown from Daniel Rodriguez from 70-yards out and a made PAT to give them the 42-38 win over Nazareth.
Robinson led the team in rushing yards for Whitharral as he had 14 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Griffin had another 16 carries for 96 yards and three touchdowns while Copper Popelka had one carry for four yards.
Griffin led the team in passing as he had 10 completions for 72 yards. Robinson had three completions for 32 yards and Brolin Kennedy had one pass for 11 yards.
The leading receiver on the Panthers was Griffin with three catches for 43 yards. Robinson had three catches for 25 yards, Kennedy had four catches for 20 yards, Ryder Graff had one catch for 16 yards, Popelka had two catches for six yards and Damian Rodriguez had one catch for five yards.
Leading the Panthers in tackling on the night was Daniel Rodriguez with eight and a half tackles. Robinson had seven tackles, Kennedy had six and a half, Griffin had six, Popelka and Greg Johnson both had four and a half and Dawson Rodgers had one tackle.
The Panthers had one turnover on the night off of an interception which was from Robinson.
The Panthers progress to 4-2 on the season as they get ready to start district play against the Lazbuddie Longhorns this upcoming Friday at home at 7:30 p.m.
