Whitharral Panthers are District Champions

The Whitharral Panthers hosted the Wellman-Union Wildcats this past Tuesday night for their last district game of the season where the Panthers won 98-29.

Off rip the Panthers were in control of the game as they were able to score 32 points in the first quarter while their defense held the Wildcats to just six points, taking a 26-point lead early in the game.

The second quarter was more of the same story for Whitharral as they outscored Wellman 24-4, extending their lead by another 20 points, making the score 56-10, going into the halftime break.

Leading the Panthers in scoring at the halftime break was Brenton Robinson with 16 points, 12 of them coming from the first quarter.

Out of the halftime break, Whitharral continued to display their dominance as they scored 29 points in the third quarter while they held the Wildcats to just nine points before the final quarter of the game.

For the fourth quarter it was the closest quarter in the whole game with Whitharral still winning the quarter 13-12 and taking the last district win of the season and becoming the District Champions. Jack Griffin led the Panthers in scoring with 22 points on the night. Robinson and Nate Sansom both had 20 points a piece, Damian Rodriguez had 14 points, Hudson Dobrovolny had eight, Dawson Rodgers had seven, Brolin Kennedy had six and Daniel Rodriguez finished the game with two points.

The Whitharral Panthers progress to 19-6 on the season while finishing first in their district.

The Panthers Bi-District round of playoffs have them going up against the Sands Mustangs this Monday at 8 p.m. in Lubbock Roosevelt.
