The Morton Indians hosted the Whitharral Panthers for the teams district opener where the team lost, 51-34.
In the first quarter of the game it would be the Whitharral Panthers that would jump out to the early lead over the Morton Indians as they would lead 15-10. For the second quarter of the game neither team would outdo the other as both would hold each other to a modest gain of only 10 points a piece.
Going into the halftime break the Panthers held the narrow lead on the Indians 25-20.
Nate Sansom for the Panthers would be the leading scorer at the half with 10 points, eight of them coming from the paint.
For the Indians it would be Cade Lyon who had control of the game as he had eight points at the half with six of them coming from beyond the arch.
Going into the third quarter of the game it would be the Panthers once more as they would outscore the Indians 16-to-11 and hold on to a strong lead. At the end of the third quarter it would be Whitharral leading 4131.
Although it was a close game throughout the game it would be hard for Morton to keep up as they were only able to get three to go in the fourth quarter while Whitharral was able to get another 10 on the night.
The leading scorer for Whitharral was Sansom as he had 17 in the game. Nomar Gomez had 13, Jack Griffin and Brent Robinson both had eight points a piece and Landon Lee finished with five.
Leading scorer for the Indians was Alex Lopez who finished with 12 points, six of them coming from inside the paint. Cade Lyon had eight, Zeph Silvas had five, four Indians finished with two which were A.J. Mendoza, Brayden Villarreal, Anibal Casteneda and Jaeden Alvarado. E.J. Rivas finished the game with one.
The Morton Indians will play their next game against the Seagraves Eagles this upcoming Thursday at home at 12 p.m.
The Whitharral Panthers will face-off against the Cotton Center Elks on the road as 7:45 p.m.
