Whitharral Panthers down Anton Bulldogs at home

The Whitharral Panthers hosted the Anton Bulldogs for their district game this past Tuesday night where the Panthers won 82-46.

The start of the game was both offenses on fire as Whitharral was able to outscore Anton 2622, taking a four-point lead going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter though, the Panthers were able to pull away as they scored another 19 points while holding the Bulldogs to just eight points, making the score 45-30 at the halftime break.

Leading the Panthers in scoring at the halftime break was Nathan Sansom with 16 points, nine of them in the second quarter.

For the Anton Bulldogs the leading scorer at the half was Shooter Campos with 14 points, 12 of them in the first quarter.

Out of the break, it was more of the same for Whitharral as their offense could not be stopped and their defense was forcing turnovers as they outscored the Bulldogs 19-6 in the third making the score 64-36, going into the fourth quarter of play.

For the final quarter of action, Whitharral was able to put the game away and take the district win to earn the district championship 82-46.

Leading the Panthers in scoring on the night was Hudson Dobrovolny with 24 points. Sansom finished with 21 points, Brenton Robinson had 16, Jack Griffin had 15, Daniel Rodriguez had four and Damian Rodriguez finished with two points in the team’s win.

For the Anton Bulldogs the leading scorer for the night was Campos with 17 points. Jose Avalos had another 14 points, Gavin Martinez had nine, Caleb Carlock had four and Adrian Castillo finished with two points on the night.

The Whitharral Panthers progress to 18-6 on the season while being the only team in their district with a undefeated 8-0 record. The Panthers play their last district game against the Wellman-Union Wildcats this Tuesday at home at 7:30 p.m.

For the Anton Bulldogs they fall to 9-13 on the season while going down to 5-3 in district play, sitting in second place of their district. The Bulldogs last game of district play is against the Meadow Broncos this Tuesday at home at 6:30 p.m. after going up against the Amherst Bulldogs this past Friday night on the road.
