The Whitharral Panthers faced-off against the Sands Mustangs this past Friday night in Jayton where the Panthers fell 46-43.
Sands opened up the scoring of the game in the first quarter after they had a big run to make the score 8-0 after their made PAT.
The Mustangs added onto their lead in the first with another touchdown, this time a passing touchdown to extend the Sands lead 14-0.
Whitharral answered back though as they had a Jack Griffin passing touchdown to Brent Robinson from 29-yards out to cut into the Sands lead 14-6.
In the second quarter of the game Sands was the first team on the board once more as they got the ball into the endzone with a pass to make the score 20-6.
Whitharral made the score closer towards the end of the half with rushing touchdown of their own from Robinson, this time from 17-yards out to make the score 20-14 at the halftime break.
Right out of the half though, it was Sands once more as they broke off another big run, this time from 34-yards out to make the score 28-14 against the Panthers.
The Panthers weren’t going away though as Daniel Rodriguez of Whitharral punched the ball in from four-yards out to make the score a one-possession game 2822, Whitharral still trailing.
The Mustangs offense was tough to contain though as Sands was back on the board, this time on the ground from nineyards out to make the score 34-22.
At the end of the third quarter though, Whitharral was able to get a Griffin rushing touchdown from 18-yards out to go for them making the score 3428, going into the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs were back on the board at the start of the fourth quarter after a four-yard rush to make the score 40-28.
The Panthers were able to keep the game close with a touchdown pass from Brolin Kennedy to Nate Samson from three-yards out to make the score 40-35, after the made PAT from Griffin.
Sands got their final touchdown of the game from a 17yard rush to make their score 4635 towards the end of the fourth.
The final touchdown from the Whitharral Panthers came from a Robinson pass for 45yards out to Samson to make the score 46-43 with a made PAT from Griffin and giving the Sands Mustangs the Bi-District win over the Panthers.
Robinson led the Panthers in passing on the night with 81 yards and two touchdowns. Griffin had 30 yards and Kennedy had nine yards and one touchdown through the air.
Leading the Panthers in rushing was Griffin with 11 carries for 82 yards and one touchdown. Robinson had another 11 carries for 67 yards and one touchdown, Dawson Rodgers had one carry for 19 yards, Samson had one carry for five yards and Daniel Rodriguez had one carry for four yards and one touchdown.
For Whitharral the leading receiver on the team was Samson with two catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Griffin had one catch for 29 yards and one touchdown, Copper Popelka had three catches for 27 yards, Kennedy had two catches for nine yards and Robinson had one catch for seven yards.
Leading the Panthers in tackling on the night was Daniel Rodriguez with nine and a half tackles. Kennedy had another eight and a half, Griffin and Greg Johnson both had five tackles each and both Robinson and Rodgers had three and a half tackles.
The Whitharral Panthers finish off their season as District Champs with a 7-3 record on the season.
