Whitharral Panthers mercy Valley on the road

The Whitharral Panthers faced-off against the Valley Patriots this past Friday where the Panthers won 65-20.

Whitharral was on the board first after Jack Griffin rushed the ball in for a touchdown from seven-yards out to make the score 6-0 after the missed kick.

Valley answered back with a score of their own from a passing touchdown and the good onepoint conversion to take the lead and go into the second quarter 76 over the Panthers.

In the second quarter, the Patriots scored again with a rushing touchdown to push their lead to 13-6.

Whitharral didn’t give up though as Griffin ran another touchdown in from 20-yards out to make the score 14-13 after the made PAT.

The Panthers poured it on after Griffin hit Brent Robinson from 19-yards out to extend their lead and make the score 22-13 after they made the PAT.

Going into the halftime break Whitharral led the Patriots 22-13 with the momentum on their side as they had to get ready for another half of play.

Out of the break the Panthers broke off a huge touchdown run from Robinson from 46-yards out and another made PAT to make the score 30-13 in the third quarter.

The Whitharral defense stepped up though as they recovered a fumble that was returned for a touchdown by Daniel Rodriguez and made the score 38-13 in the blink of an eye.

The Panthers weren’t done though as Griffin broke off a huge run from 40-yards out to extend the Whitharral lead 44-13 in the third quarter still.

Valley answered back with a productive drive as they punched it in from three-yards out to make the score 44-19.

On the pursuing kickoff return, Whitharral returned the ball all the way for another touchdown from 60-yards out and another made PAT to make the score 52-20.

After the Valley offense’s drive stalled out the Panther offense took over and scored almost immediately as they had another big rush from 44-yards out go for another touchdown and a good one-point conversion from a Griffin to Rodriguez pass made the score 59-20.

The final blow of the game came from the Whitharral offense as Greg Johnson ran the ball in from six-yards out to make the final score 65-20.

Griffin led the team in rushing as he had 12 carries for 224 yards and four touchdowns with one fumble on the night. Robinson had another nine carries for 98 yards and one touchdown, Johnson had one carry for six yards and one touchdown and Daniel Rodriguez had one carry for three yards.

Griffin also led the team in passing with 38 yards through the air with 38 yards and one touchdown. Brolin Kennedy also threw a pass for 11 yards on the night.

Robinson led the Panthers in receiving yards with two catches for 30 yards and one touchdown. Kennedy had another catch for 19 yards on the night.

On the defensive side of the ball Rodriguez led the team in tackling with 10 on the night. Robinson had another eight tackles, Copper Popelka had six and a half tackles, Kennedy had five and a half, Ryder Graf had three and a half, Johnson had two and a half, Griffin had two tackles, and three Panthers had one tackle each in Nathan Samson, Damian Rodriguez and Omar Carlos.

The Whitharral Panthers progress to 3-2 on the season as they get ready to take on the Nazareth Swifts on the road at 7:30 p.m. Nazareth is coming off of a win against O’Donnell and are coming into the game with a 4-1 record on the year.
